The Historical Charm and Modern Beauty of Catalonia

Many travels who dream of going on a European trip would most likely have Catalonia on their bucket list. Beautiful sights, exciting activities, fun festivals, splendid dishes and its colourful culture are only some of the things tourists look forward to in Catalonia. Golf Vacation Spain is one of the main attractions of Spain. This independent region of Spain surely has made its mark in the world as one of the best places to visit.

History, Language and Economy of Catalonia

Catalonia’s history dates back to the middle ages. It officially became part of Spain when Queen Isabella of Castille married King Ferdinand of Aragon, and their realms were united. It was only in 1931 that Spain became a republic and soon enough, broad autonomy was given to Catalonia. Aside from its autonomous state and independence, Catalonia even has its own language. While there are many residents who speak Spanish, other recognised and widely spoken languages are Castilian (Catalan) and Occitan, an Aranese dialect. The predominant language in Barcelona is Castilian, which is also the first language of many Catalans—most of them are bilinguals. Because of Catalonia’s beautiful surroundings, thanks to its great location, one of the most important parts of its economy is tourism. Manufacturing textiles used to be the biggest contributor to the region’s economy but most recently, other economic contributors have overtaken this such as metalworking, food processing and the chemical industry. Four provinces make up Catalonia: Girona, Lleida, Tarragona and its capital Barcelona.

Locationand Climate of Catalonia

Catalonia is located in the northeast corner of Spain. One of its most famous landmarks, the Pyrenean Mountains, separates Catalonia from Southern France. A great tourist destination, Catalonia has great weather all year round. Its Mediterranean climate has mild winters that are cool but lovely and pleasant and summers that are hot, dry and sunny. The rainiest month is October and if you plan on taking a trip to Catalonia, this month should be your last option. The rest of the year may be cool or sunny but pleasant enough to take a trip.
